Planarity

Planarity is a fun little game where you simply untangle lines. Sounds easy, right? Well it is, at first. But as the game progresses, you wind up with more and more lines to untangle and it gets quite tricky. Still, with a little patience it's a game that anyone can master, and can be quite addictive to those of us who like solving things.

Levers

In Levers, the object is to simply keep everything out of the water. Sounds simple, right? It's not as easy as it looks though! With an increasingly bizarre assortment of objects, this little puzzler can get a bit tricky. Still, it's a fairly short game, once you piece it all together. Just perfect for killing some time on a Thursday.

Onslaught 2

Had a dentist appointment this morning, so I'm a little late with the featured game... Anyone who sticks around and reads this blog for long enough will soon learn that I have a penchant for tower defense games. Onslaught 2 is one of the better ones I've seen. You start with four basic tower types, and as you progress through the game you earn additional towers and modifiers. The key is in upgrading your towers fully to produce combos. The game is still evolving, and new features are released periodically, the most recent release included a new sound package. Be sure to check out the settings screen when you start playing, as there are some useful options there.

Neopets

Neopets is a game that's been around a while, but continues to grow and evolve. The basic premise is that you adopt a pet and then raise and take care of it as you see fit. There are 42 different regular species to choose from, as well as several limited edition species that can't be created the usual way. You can choose to start from the ground up and create your own pet, or go adopt an abandoned pet from the pound. Once you have your pet though, the fun is only beginning. Neopets offers a wide variety of ways to enjoy the site. You could spend all day in the arcade playing dozens (or is it hundreds?) of games to earn neopoints (the Neopian currency) or go visit a variety of characters who will give you quests to complete. Collect books and make your pet the smartest in the game, or equip him for battle and duel against other players (or the computer). Open a shop and sell, sell, sell or design your own (free!) webpage. The choices are endless!

Tales of Pirates

Tales of Pirates Online is a free MMORPG, but that doesn't begin to cover it. There's an extensive world where you can wage battles both on land and at sea. Quests galore will keep you on the right track as you progress through whatever path you choose. Become a swordsman, explorer or herbalist, buy your own ship and sail off in search of treasure. Join a party of friends to conquer monsters, or go PVP and show off your skills. The initial download of the game is a bit long, but well worth the wait!

Avernum 4

I simply can't say enough good things about Spiderweb Software. They continue to put out games whose playability and storyline is remarkably top quality, even if the graphics are lagging a bit behind. Having played the first three games in the Avernum series, I was thrilled when the fourth came out. It is no disappointment! Building on the continuing saga of those who have been forced to live in underground caves to escape the evil empire above, Avernum 4 is all that I've come to expect from this home-grown software company. And to make it even better, the free demo version is so extensive, you can play for weeks without ever hitting the end. So go try it out already!

Desktop Tower Defense

Desktop TD might not look like much at first glance, but what it lacks in graphics it makes up for in playability. In this highly-addictive strategy game, players build mazes out of defense towers to repel invaders. There are several different types of tower, each with strengths and weaknesses, as well as several types of invaders. You can upload your score to the high scores list to see how you fare against other defenders around the world, or create a group for your friends, and try to beat each others' scores. A multiplayer version (with some fun new features) is currently in Beta testing.

Welcome to BunGirl's Featured Games!

As some of you who have read my other blogs may know, I am a gamer. I love games. The long, complex sort are awesome, but so are the short, fun, mindless types. I also love to share new things I find. To that end, I decided to create a game blog, where I could post new games I come across or stumble upon, as well as old favorites. I thought of calling it Game of the Day, but I don't know if I'll be posting quite that often... so, it's just "Featured Game." Whenever I come across a game that I enjoy enough to pass on, I will do so here. The only stipulation will be that they all will be free games. ('Cause hey, free is good!) They will also be tagged according to the type of game (action, rpg, puzzle, etc) as well as the format (typically browser or download).

So, without further ado, the first featured game is Avalanche. It's a simple little game where you hop on top of falling blocks to try to avoid the coming flood and reach high ground. In the screen shot to the left, the little white marshmallow guy is the player. The graphics really aren't anything special, but it's super easy to learn and oddly addictive. Enjoy!

News: Featured Games is on a semi-hiatus. I may post games here as I see fit, but it won't be regularly, at least for a while.

Know of a game you'd like to see featured here?
