Ultimate Defense

Time to post another Tower Defense game -- this one is called Ultimate Defense. There's not too much that's unique about it, but if you like TDs, you'll love this one. It reminds me a bit of Protector, in that you're placing characters rather than actual towers. The characters automatically upgrade themselves once they earn enough exp, so you never have to waste gold on upgrades. Overall, this is a fun little diversion with all the hallmarks of a great tower defense game.

StormWinds 1.5

Defend against derigibles, flying cannons and more in StormWinds 1.5, a Tower Defense game on Kongregate. No mazes and complex winding paths in this one though, your tower slots (only four!) are on the left and the enemies come at you from the right (mostly). Upgrading is automatic, but repairs and buffs are costly. See if you can make it through a campaign or two!

Big Fish Friday: Monster Mash

Monster Mash is a fairy tale take on the traditional tower defense game. There are a few curveballs though -- you have a team of builders who can only build or upgrade one tower at a time. They also collect bonus tokens which can produce effects like damaging all monsters on the map or making all of your towers fire faster. In addition, there is a little girl running from each wave of monsters. If she makes it into the village safely, you've effectively gained another life.

Frontline Tower Defense

Frontline Tower Defense is one of the more difficult TD games I've played. And that's on the easy setting! It looks pretty standard... Open playing field, creeps moving through it. But the creeps are deceptively difficult, and the towers are a bit on the pricey side. Think you have what it takes? Go find out!

Flash Element TD 2

Some of you may remember me posting Flash Element TD a few weeks ago. Today, I'm featuring it's sequel, Flash Element TD 2. If you thought the last one was funny with the speakers on, you'll love this one. As each wave enters the playing field, they'll yell some sort of battle cry. Then when they die, they'll cry out in defeat. In this one, you're not defending a stronghold or anything, rather you're protecting a set of colored orbs. If the creeps manage to get all of the orbs back to their home base, it's game over!

Big Fish Friday: Garden Defense

Of course, I can't make it an entire week without posting a Tower Defense game... This time it's Garden Defense, which has a few little twists on the genre. At the start there are two sets of towers available, gadgets and plants. The gadgets can be moved at any time, with only a short period of non-functionality afterward. Handy for shooting at the start of the maze and then again at the end. Plants can't be moved at all, but they do self-upgrade and spawn new plants, so you can populate your entire maze without having to continuously buy new plants. Of course, there are also all kinds of ways to improve your arsenal as you continue through the game. All in all, Garden Defense is an interesting and fun take on tower defense!

Featured Game: Temple Guardian

Time for another tower defense game, and this one's a bit trickier than most. In Temple Guardian, you're defending an ancient temple against waves of invaders. You start out with the usual fare, cannons and arrows, but there are also eagle's nests and sacred dragons. Manage your money and your miracles, and don't forget to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade!

Featured Game: Flash Element TD

Time for another Tower Defense game!!! For this one, you absolutely must turn on your speakers because each wave of invaders has their own battlecry and some are quite funny. Other than that, Flash Element TD is pretty standard of the genre: build towers, upgrade them, repel attackers, etc. Worth a play or two though, especially if you're a TD fan like I am!

Featured Game: Vector TD

Vector TD may not have flashy graphics like some of the Tower Defense games out there, but it more than makes up for it with it's playability. Start out by picking your map, then build towers and defend against the oncoming attackers. Spend cash to build and upgrade towers, but you'll also get bonus points that can be used to build modifiers.

Featured Game: Flash Circle TD

On the surface, Flash Circle TD looks like any other tower defense game. Build towers, upgrade them, defend against incoming creeps, same old same old, right? Of course, this one has a bit of a twist to it. Rather than entering the screen and traveling toward a specific point where it will attack you, taking one of your lives, these creeps just hang around. That is, move around, but never leave. So rather than having a set number of lives to lose, you have a set maximum number (100) of creeps that can be on the playing field at any time. While that may seem like a small difference, it does change the strategy of the game, just a bit. Enjoy!

Featured Game: Defender

Defender is kind of like a tower defense game, except that your towers are characters. Place mages, villagers and other characters on the paved areas. Click on grassy areas to pave them (for a price). And be sure to level up your characters when they begin to glow.

Featured Game: Gem Tower Defense

Gem Tower Defense is not your typical TD game. There are a few twists to work around here:

• You can't pick what type of tower you want to build. You place five randomly selected towers per turn, and then choose one of them to remain, while the rest just turn to wall pieces.
• Towers level themselves up, according to how many kills they have.
  
• You can combine certain stones to create special towers with enhanced abilities which can be upgraded.
• Enemies have to hit certain pre-designated points to continue through the maze. You can't build on top of these points, and you can't completely wall them in.
  

There are a few other atypical features, but I'll let you find those yourself... ;)

Budapest Defenders

As you may know, BunGirl has an affinity for Tower Defense games. Today's Featured Game, recommended by BunGirl, herself, is Budapest Defenders, where placement of roadblocks and defensive shooters is key to keeping the Soviets out of the Hungarian capital city for good. I like that this game has a real historical background, since it's set in 1956. Creeps, like tanks, enter the map from various checkpoints. Instead of building towers, I get to place individual Hungarian defense people atop buildings in Budapest. The molotov thrower is my favorite, because he gets to explode things. Now, it's your turn to play Budapest Defenders and preserve the future of Hungary!

Turret Wars

Yup, time for another TD game! (that's tower defense for those who are new here) Turret Wars is a great little game, if a little on the advanced side. In this one you get to use the advantages of the terrain to slow down your enemies while protecting your base against their onslaught. So what are you waiting for? Go! Play!

Bloons Tower Defense

Ok, time for another tower defense game! (Told ya I liked these) This one's not precisely towers though. It's more like... monkeys. Cause everybody likes monkeys, right? Especially monkeys with darts! If you like monkeys with darts, head on over to Bloons TD and start defending!

Onslaught 2

Had a dentist appointment this morning, so I'm a little late with the featured game... Anyone who sticks around and reads this blog for long enough will soon learn that I have a penchant for tower defense games. Onslaught 2 is one of the better ones I've seen. You start with four basic tower types, and as you progress through the game you earn additional towers and modifiers. The key is in upgrading your towers fully to produce combos. The game is still evolving, and new features are released periodically, the most recent release included a new sound package. Be sure to check out the settings screen when you start playing, as there are some useful options there.

Desktop Tower Defense

Desktop TD might not look like much at first glance, but what it lacks in graphics it makes up for in playability. In this highly-addictive strategy game, players build mazes out of defense towers to repel invaders. There are several different types of tower, each with strengths and weaknesses, as well as several types of invaders. You can upload your score to the high scores list to see how you fare against other defenders around the world, or create a group for your friends, and try to beat each others' scores. A multiplayer version (with some fun new features) is currently in Beta testing.
