Jade Empire: Special Edition

Origin regularly gives away older titles "on the house". This time the offering is BioWare's Jade Empire: Special Edition, an action RPG played out among the myths of China.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Game

This mostly-text-based RPG re-creates the story of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in a puzzlingly humorous way. If you're at all a fan of the HGttG books, you should certainly give this a try. After all, it's mostly harmless.

WildTangent's Fate

Wild Games Fate is a fantasy RPG, done old-school style. No need to pick a class or specialty here though. You can build up your skills and spells as you see fit. Want to be a swordsman who can also summon monsters when he sees fit? Go for it. An archer with the ability to heal? No problem. You can build your character any way you choose. This one is only a free trial, but well worth a look!

AlphaBounce

I'm not typically fond of breakout type games, but AlphaBounce is a bit different. It's kind of like an RPG played on a breakout engine. You get three free plays a day, and you can earn more in game. You're playing a space prisoner, serving your time as a galactic miner. As you break bricks, you can earn upgrades and such that will help you out as you progress through the game. Anyway, don't take my word for it -- go try it out!

Featured Game: Temple Guardian

Time for another tower defense game, and this one's a bit trickier than most. In Temple Guardian, you're defending an ancient temple against waves of invaders. You start out with the usual fare, cannons and arrows, but there are also eagle's nests and sacred dragons. Manage your money and your miracles, and don't forget to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade!

Featured Game: Mr. Mothball

From the Casual Gameplay Design Competition at Jay is Games comes Mr. Mothball, a scroll-free platformer where you play as -- yep you guessed it -- a mothball. That aside, the game is rather pretty in a dingy, unique kinda way. The controls are simple: arrow keys to move and jump. The objective is easy: collect all of the coins and move to the next level. So what are you waiting for? Go give it a try!

Fancy Pants Adventure

Fancy Pants Adventure is a side-scrolling adventure game, reminiscent of Sonic the Hedgehog. Your character is a stick man (with fancy orange pants) who has to run, jump, duck and roll through levels, unlocking doors, defeating monsters and collecting coins as you go. Just don't get eaten by the giant spiders...

Papa Louie: When Pizzas Attack

Papa Louie: When Pizzas Attack is reminds me of the old Mario games, circa the Super Nintendo era. Wander through levels, collect coins, defeat monsters, beat the evil pizzas into submission, and save the folks who they've imprisoned in this fun, lighthearted side scroller. There's even a save feature so you can pick up again where you left off!

News: Featured Games is on a semi-hiatus. I may post games here as I see fit, but it won't be regularly, at least for a while.

Know of a game you'd like to see featured here?
